It was easy to tell my coworker, who assumed the responsibilities of assistant manager not too long ago, of my intent to quit. She said she saw it coming, as I hoped she would have. I could see the look of relief on her face when I told her that I am going to finish the current schedule. Telling our manager/owner was a little more nerve-wracking for he saw my wanting to get the hell out as a reflection of his poor managerial skills. I couldn’t believe it.
So after a few minutes of attempting to reassure him, I decided I wasn’t going to win. How many other ways can I say “I don’t like the hotel industry”? He’s definitely new to this whole management role.
