Now That That’s Behind Me

The commencement ceremony went smoothly. Unlike a lot of folks (more than you’d think), my cap stayed on my head the entire time (because I know of these things called bobby pins) and I didn’t trip walking across the stage, which was my biggest fear.

I don’t have a lot of photos from Saturday yet as I didn’t take a lot myself and I haven’t gotten the files from the folks that did. Those that I do have are of family and friends, which I can’t really post because I’d have to black out their faces, and that ruins it. When I get more that I can use, I’ll post them to Flickr.

Here’s some pictures I can share.

The Partner and I at the restaurant, where my family and friends gorged themselves:

The following shot was made possible by the overwhelmingly-generous gifts of several family members and friends:

I have been lusting after a digital SLR for such a long time. I finally decided on the Canon EOS 400D because (1) I have three other Canons and am pleased with their performance and (2) the features on the 400D kick ass for a dSLR just under $700 (which means you can spend more on glass). I’ve taken about 180 shots so far and I’m only posting these two because I have much to (re)learn.

I also get to switch gears at this here ole site. Since I no longer have classes to whine and bitch over I’ll have to find other things to blog about, like how one shouldn’t vote for a candidate just because they have the largest campaign budget and can therefore garner the most media attention.

    whoa. a rebel. nice!
i love love love my digital camera.
though you wouldn’t know it from the shamefully few photos i take with it.
    ah well.
this photography book is supposed to be pretty good. bit expensive so I haven’t gotten it yet, but maybe you can talk someone into making it a belated graduation present!

(Your comment was held because of the link. That shouldn’t happen, though, because you should be able to put up to two links and be fine.)

The London & Upton book looks good; I’ll check the libraries for it because it is a little pricey. I have two other books on photography and took a few years of photo classes back in high school (but have forgotten most of the info on f/stop and aperture).

I remembered about your camera — if you check your logs, that was me searching your archives for your posts on it! I couldn’t remember which brand you had.

I’ve been reading forums and the best advice I’ve read so far is concerning which glass/lenses to get for a basic kit and to always carry your camera with you. I ordered another lens online around 2am this morning before going to bed! and I’ll stop by the shop again today to pick up a few things.

    Go consumerism!

i thought maybe the link was to blame for the disappearing trick.
i feel bad now about your [probably] fruitless search since i’ve closed virtually all posts before Jan 2006. i don’t think i’ve blogged much about the camera since then.

i’ve been putting off looking at lenses since i can’t afford a new one just yet and i don’t trust myself to make a bad decision. i have no self-control as we know.

I highly recommend going to Flickr and searching through the discussions for your particular camera. I have found great suggestions and reviews regarding lenses, but the best part is that you can see photos taken by the lenses you’re thinking of buying.

I’d also check out dpreview.com, for their in-depth reviews on camera and lenses.
