After a shower, The Partner starts his day with a dose of the NBC Nightly News Netcast with Brian Williams while eating breakfast. His rationale is that this is the sort of stuff average Americans watch so it’s best for us to know what they’re exposing themselves to. I’m still lazily laying about in bed while he gets his fix, but I can still hear it. Last night’s broadcast featured an “interview” with Bush during his “visit” to New Orleans as part of NBC’s segment, “Katrina: The Long Road Back” (ho-hum).

A lot of things in this broadcast irked me — like the avoidance of any substantial critique of, well, anything — but the thing that really infuriated me was how much of a fucking tool Brian Williams is. How else would he have been allowed to interview Bush if he didn’t come ready with scripted questions and responses? Does the American public ever ponder this?
