I woke up yesterday with a migraine that pretty much immobilized me in the morning and necessitated my missing class in the afternoon. By late evening it was all but a dull throbbing memory.

The Partner and I eagerly awaited the return of The Canadian® yesterday, checking flight arrivals and planning to go out for dinner upon his return. Seven o’clock rolled around and we gave up and went to dinner without him. As we were getting up from the booth to pay our bill, The Canadian® called to say he was delayed at the Minneapolis airport and would be in Indianapolis around 10:45 PM. This meant he would miss the last shuttle back to our city.

“I can stay at the airport until morning and take the early shuttle.”

Well, you can’t leave your friend to spend the night at an airport, can you? A little after ten last night – we’re always running late around here – The Partner and I left for Indy.

We almost died at the beginning of the drive, as a semi-truck swerved into our lane to avoid a broken-down car. We must have been in the blindspot. I slammed on the horn, the brights, and the breaks all at the same time and The Partner and I both screamed and braced for impact. A half-hour later, somewhere around the town of Lebanon, we ran into a massive storm cell that forced our speed down to 35-40mph for at least 20 minutes. I couldn’t see shit. 15 minutes after that cell, we hit another one and slowed again for another 10 minutes. Semis, those monsterous beasts that I envision will be my death one day, were passing us and throwing more water onto us causing me to break incessantly.

We made it to the airport sometime after 11pm with my nerves shot and picked up The Canadian® from the arrivals area. Then we got back onto the highway to do it all over. We only hit one bad cell on the way home and were highly entertained by The Canadian’s® retelling of his week-and-a-half drunken bender in Canada.

We got home and all had a drink to wind down while watching folks doing the Chicken Noodle Soup. Have you seen this shit? Check it out, it’s hilarious. Chicken noodle soup with a soda on the side.

And this morning, this wonderful Friday morning, the last Friday of my last (undergraduate) Spanish class (!!), I woke up with a migraine again.

I haven’t had one this severe in a long time, long enough to have forgotten how utterly miserable it is to have a nonstop pounding in your brain. I slouched through yesterday’s classes, resulting in a hazey memory of what I was supposed to have learned. I ate heavy meals, avoiding trigger foods, and took pills to no avail. I didn’t do any homework and went to sleep, the only escape.

This morning I woke up to thunder inside my brain. I lasted one hour before curling up on the bed and passing out. So bad that I skipped history, a lecture class I cannot miss, and it doesn’t look like I’m going to feminist theory, either.

The dreams I have with migraines are just weird. For instance, this morning they involved Vin Diesel flying through the air, Bette Midler toting a machine gun, little people, and death and destruction.

Now that I’m feeling slightly better, I have a bunch of homework to do. Which is worse: migraine or homework? My vote: they’re damn close.

I’ve decided to skip class today. I skipped Monday as well and only stayed for fifteen minutes yesterday.

Today I’m skipping because the migraine headache I woke up with is giving me insane bouts of nausea. I attempted to eat something, managing about ten spoonfulls, but couldn’t go on. Hopefully it is enough to guard my stomach from the pills.

I’ve decided to do something I should have been doing years ago. I get a large amount of junk mail each day, and normally I shred it. From now on, I’m going to cut off all identifying information, write something along the lines of STOP KILLING TREES or DIE YOU CORPORATE BASTARDS, and mail the shit back to the companies, in their postage-paid envelopes. Why didn’t I think of this sooner?
