Much unlike previous years, The Partner and I stayed at home — but just like all the years before, we got silly drunk. The Canadian® came over and got drunk with us and we all sat around the kitchen table playing Puerto Rico. We took breaks to play Egyptian Ratscrew, down more shots, and watch stand-up, but we did not count down to midnight, nor did we watch a lighted ball descend with narration provided by Dick Clark.

At about five minutes till midnight The Canadian® looked up from his game board and said, “It’s almost midnight, eh?”

We looked at the clock and The Partner said, “Yep. Should we take a shot?” And we went about our drunken business.

I text-messaged everyone in my cellphone wishing them a merry new year and the best reply I received came four hours later:

I think I’ll make a card* out of that one for next year.

Since there’s no shame in my game, I’ll share a photo from our three person party showing you just how intoxicated I got and proof that my weeks of liver training did not adequately prepare me. Annie is no longer allowed to drink three-quarters of a bottle all by herself.

*The bad news is that greeting cards did not get sent out as I had orginally planned, so those of you on my list can expect a non-season’s greetings card in the near future. The good news is that I’m still accepting requests for cards from anybody who would like one. Send a mailing address of some sort to me at this domain and you shall receive snail-mail goodness, sans a picture of me puking.
